dada - The Little Band That Could

I came home today to a surprise package in the mailbox. A live dvd bootleg of my favorite band, dada. I immediately sat down, work cloths and all, and watched for a solid 2 hours, one of the best rock bands....ever.

I can't say enough good things about this band. Actually, I can't believe I haven't talked about them until now. [except for a New Year's Eve video I posted a while back]

I really hate doing this, but let me point out one song you might already know, but didn't really know you knew. Ever hear a tune that goes something like this...
Dizz Knee Land

That was their first single from 1992. It actually went to #5 on the Modern Rock Charts.

Whether you like it, hate it, don't remember it or do, this band, is so much more than just one song. For starters, they are a rock trio with a big sweet sound that you can't put into just one category. They have great harmonies and intricate guitar playing by Michael Gurley, who, I'm saying out loud, is one of the best guitarists on the freaking planet. This is a band's band. Meaning, a good number of people standing in the crowd at their shows are musicians themselves. If that's not a glowing endorsement right there, I don't know what is.

They've got songs for every mood in which you could ever possibly find yourself. And isn't that why we love music so much? It is the soundtrack to our lives, isn't it?
