Too Much of a Good Thing?

Lima Beans I really love lima beans. And I love that there is actually someone out there who felt them worthy enough to illustrate. Is it a bad thing that I cooked and ate half a bag of them last night? I can't be the only person on earth who does this. So spill it. What food would you easily overdose on?

So Good It Makes Me Want To Sing

Petit Four Me
I'm fortunate enough to work at an office where our lunch is often catered by sales reps.

Well, today I had a little taste of heaven in these petit fours (if that's what you'd call it) they brought in. I try not to use crappy cell phone pictures for my blog, but there was no way this little guy was going to wait till I got home to a real camera. I mean, it must be good if I felt the need to blog about it, right?*

I don't know what they've got packed in these babies, but it's cake-like as well as cookie-like and it's wonderfully dense and moist and chocolatey and I swear there has to be some kind of liqueur in them. And no, I don't mean liqour (licker). I mean liqueur (lik-cure), if you get my drift. It tastes as wonderful and fancy as that pronunciation. They might not end up being high art food, but they sure got my taste buds a-singin' arias.

The caterer used by the sale rep was "Florimontes", but I'm not sure if this came from them as well. It was on a platter dripping with a host of other sugary concoctions. I think I'm going to have to make a phone call here soon. Anyone knowing anything more about these little bite-sized pretties please leave me a comment.

*This post reminds me of a long ago writing assigment where I had to describe an everyday object in detail, but without once mentioning the item. The class then had to figure out what it was. Of course, me being me, I chose the oh-so-every-day item; a gun. [Hmmm, I bet if you wrote about that today, you'd be in the principal's office within seconds.] I think I might have to unearth that and read it again.

[Only here folks, can you get conversations about petit fours and firearms.]

Mr. Green Thumb

It was requested of me by my father that I blog specifically about his garden. Last week he was especially happy with his potatoes (which I have since consumed happily).

i FEEL pretty.

Won't you please buy me and make me pretty again?

I was born in 1880, and my bones do ache a bit, but other than that, I'm probably in better shape than some of these young whipper snappers calling themselves "home" nowadays.

Don't Try To Outsmart The Pros(e)

I have these two bookcases you soon will see.
They traveled a long way to be with me.

I went two rounds with the normal paint stripper
But the paint had a mind to stay on them forever.

Cracking Black Bookcase

So, the bookcases sat on my porch for a year.
Then the neighbors asked questions and started to stare.

I finally broke down and brought them inside
For the shame of their sad state I needed to hide

I wanted to paint them, but, Oh, what to do
I had lost the desire to deal more with that goo.

Another year and the bookcases just sat
In my small living room to 'ever look at.

See, I had this idea for such a long while.
And I drew it up in my very own style.

Once again I got things underway
With this new stuff they call PeelAway!
PeelAway Bookcase
The product worked out like a charm
But I ended up doing more harm!

For the PeelAway paper ran out. Ain't that swell?
And I thought newsprint might work just as well.

Silly me, thinking that did the trick
But it ended up drying like brick!
Newsprint Doesn't Work
So, they sat for a week and a day
Till my Dad looked at them in his own way.

And with his brain always ticking away.
For him this job was merely child's play.

So he soon got to work with great TLC
And he finished these bookcases just for me.

Then, I primed them and painted them "Turquoise Sea"!
Valspar-Turquoise Sea
Now I'm so very happy to say
(And I promise, without further delay)
That they'll come home with me e'er to stay.

Miracle Bookcases

The End. AMEN!

The Police, The Drummer, and The Little Flag That Could

The PoliceAnyone who knows me for more than two minutes should know that my favorite band of all time is The Police. Whether they are together or not, they've always been and most likely always will be my favorite.

They were my first concert. They were my Beatles. I think you get the picture.

So, you can probably imagine my delight [read: hysteria] when a little over two years ago this little band got back together to embark on a reunion tour. Thanks to many wonderful friends, I had the opportunity to see them at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Hershey Park in Hershey, PA, Washington, D.C., and the show to [literally] end all shows, Madison Square Gardens in NYC.

It's been almost 10 months, to the day, since the tour ended. I've wanted to blog about this for just as long. Though, I didn't know how to put it all into words. There was too much to explain with a kind of "you had to be there" feeling.

Now, thanks to one very special lady who is an organizer extraordinaire and creator of the "little flag that could", I don't have to explain. Better words could not have been written to illustrate the experience of a few 100 or more fans of this band and more specifically, their drummer, Stewart Copeland...

The Little Flag That Could
By Kellie M. Walsh
On Thursday, August 7, 2008, at Madison Square Garden in New York, the Police—singer-bassist Sting, guitarist Andy Summers, and drummer Stewart Copeland—took the stage one last time to celebrate the finale of their thirtieth anniversary reunion tour [...]
In the middle of the celebration hung a small green flag.
It wasn't much to look at. Its corners were soiled, its face cracked. Its emblem, the silhouette of a horse and rider, held no significance for the Police. To tens of thousands of witnesses that night, it was a mystery.
But to a small group of fans, just a couple of hundred or so scattered around the arena and globe, it was a message [...]
The plan was a simple one: volunteers from the forum at stewartcopeland.net would show their support for the site's namesake by carrying to as many reunion concerts as possible a kelly green flag emblazoned with Copeland’s personal logo of himself on a horse in silhouette.
[click here for full story. It's the feel good story of the season. Heck the decade! And you'll never guess where the flag now resides!]
