Cut Loose Those Apron Strings: Mission Accomplished

Check it out! I finished the apron!
Finished Apron

If you remember, my sister bought me an apron to sew myself; something I haven't done since 7th grade.

It's not too pretty up close, but I'm not ashamed to admit I did a happy dance when I put it on.

lazy, crazy, beautiful

  • I still have not seen Alice in Wonderland yet.
  • I still have not finished my apron, though I do have an update on it that I need to post.
  • I have tons of new stuff from drawing class that I need to post. We are working in COLOR now and though my first drawing was a definite learning experience, now I am loving it. I'm using soft pastels but most of the rest of the class are using colored pencils. I will never understand why one would choose pencils over charcoal or soft pastels, or even oil pastels. If you haven't figured it out yet, I really hate working in pencil. I love thick fat lines and easy blending, even if it's the absolute messiest medium to work in. The one kid in class also using soft pastels looked like a purple people eater by the end of class last night. He literally had chalk dust all up his arms, on his neck and all down the front of his clothes. I do try to be a bit neater than that, but will admit to walking out of class several times looking like a preschooler with bright colors all over my face. Can't complain though. It's a blast.
Why no updates lately? My laptop is dying on me. I think it's overheating as it keeps flickering on and off after about half an hour. Ah well, they don't make anything to last anymore. It's lived a good life, fought the good fight. It's still chugging along for the moment, but I haven't been on it much at home lately. It's kind of been a nice break, too. We all know how the computer is a time-vacuum.

Now check out this soon to be book-filled project my Dad made for me. He even actually went out and bought a brand new shiny piece of wood to make it for me! It just needs to be painted white, either that or as my folks suggested, it might get stained white. I think I got my Dad hooked on colored stains after I talked Mom and him into a red stain for their new ikea computer desk. Which reminds me, that's another thing that should have been posted a longgggg time ago. But where were we? Oh yeah, my new book nook (with fully adjustable shelves, I might add!):

I'm All Chesired Out

Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland
I haven't finished it yet, but I started to reread 'Alice in Wonderland' (which you can read online here) in anticipation of Tim Burton's version, coming out tomorrow. According to the wiki entry:
In the film, Alice is now 19 years old and accidentally returns to Underland , a place she previously visited 12 years ago. She is told that she is the only one that can slay the Jabberwock, a dragon controlled by the Red Queen. Burton said the original Wonderland story was always about a girl wandering around to one character to another and he never felt a connection emotionally, so he wanted to make it feel more like a story than a series of events. He doesn't see this as a sequel to previous films or a re-imagining.
I don't know about you, but I was expecting the original story, reimagined by Burton. I don't know if I'm a bit bummed about a completely new story or not. I guess we will just have to wait and see. eat. drink.

I also wanted to direct you to a giveaway from one of my favorite artist bloggers, Golly Bard. Click the keyhole below to be taken down the rabbit hole to Golly Bard's blog. Leave a comment to win said Wonderland inspired keyhole painting. And while there, check out the rest of her amazing art.
